Welcome to the Hoofman Ltd.

We are a team of professional Bovine Claw Technicians who’s main aim is to correctly trim and balance the weight bearing surface on the bovine hoof. This is done in order to correct posture, mobility and/or alleviate pain by corrective trimming of the bovine hoof using specialist tools and equipment. This in turn promotes better animal welfare, performance and profitability by trained and qualified operatives.

The Hoofman Ltd started in 1995 when Charlie Harding attended a 4 day Dutch Claw Trimming course at the Willows Vet Practice in Cheshire. The first year he trimmed 769 cows in total then the next year he purchased one of the first hydraulic trimming crates and started to increase his hoof trimming throughput and knowledge of cattle claw ailments.

In 1998 he joined the newly formed National Association of Cattle Foot Trimmers and soon became an active member on the committee. The main aims of the Association have been to bring together cattle foot trimmers and interested parties to disseminate information especially in the light of the present welfare changes in farming. The Association has continually increased in credibility and is recognised and respected by The Veterinary Associations, Animal Welfare organisations and Hoof Trimming Associations from around the world. The Association has improved professionalism within the trade and encouraged foot trimmers to take their training further. Bovine Claw Technicians are now reassessed every 2 years to correct bad habits and to encourage a better standard of claw trimming.

The Hoofman Ltd has now grown to 4 full time Dutch trained Claw Technicians, Charlie Harding, Jeremy Payne, William Denny and Craig Lawrence and now trim over 35000 cows a year. In addition we have Simeon Lloyd who works with us on a ad hoc basis. Why not go through to “Meet the Cattle Claw Technicians”.

The aim of The Hoofman Ltd is to work with the dairy farming industry, to provide a fast and effective service with the most up to date equipment and highly trained technicians.

We provide detailed report sheets for the farmer, nutritionists and veterinary team detailing work done and recommended future treatments. However it must be remembered that our reports do not constitute veterinary advice and the comments made should always be considered together with advice from farmers own veterinary surgeon.

These reports of course are helpful to the dairy farmer as a resource for Farm Assurance bookkeeping. With up to date technology farmers can now “login” in to our website and download foot reports as required.

We will aim to get your foot reports online within 24 hours of our visit taking place, wherever possible. You can then download the reports on to your PC and if necessary let your herdsman, nutritionist and vet  see the reports as appropriate.

We believe in promoting welfare and improving locomotion of dairy cattle and to give farmers a greater margin and a less stressful business. As we all know a lame cow is not a profitable cow as lameness affects fertility and milk yield and in turn affects your profit.
